The National Forestry Council will Protect the Preservation of Forest Areas in Papua

The National Forestry Council (DKN) supports efforts to conserve forest areas in Papua-West Papua. This was conveyed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as well as Chairman of the Presidium of DKN Bambang Hendroyono, at the 7th Pre-Congress on Indonesian Forestry (KKI) for the Papua-West Papua Region in Jayapura City, Papua on 29-30 December 2021.

In this effort, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has transformed forest and area management policies from Timber Management to Forest Landscape Management or Landscape-Based Forest Management. This transformation is able to become an inseparable unit between economic, ecological, and social elements.

Started to be implemented in line with the revision of the KLHK Strategic Plan which underwent institutional changes. KLHK and DKN finally designed this Pre-KKI in order to socialize the various policy transformations that apply.

Starting from the Employment Act (UU) to its implementing regulations, such as Government Regulation (PP) No. 22 of 2021, PP No. 23 of 2021, and PP No. 24 of 2021 and 7 (seven) LHK Ministerial Regulations.

Together with DKN, KLHK is expected to be able to continue to preserve the forest and use it for the welfare of the community, especially those living around forest areas.

This event is the last joint series of regional Bali-Nusa Tenggara and Maluku-North Maluku towards the implementation of the VII Indonesian Forestry Congress which is known to be held this month.

The Head of the Papua Province Forestry and Environment Service, Jan Jap L Omroseray, who represented the Governor of Papua Province, revealed that the forestry sector has a fourth vision related to strengthening and accelerating the regional economy. According to local potential and structurally based regional development in a sustainable manner.

Referring to the vision and mission, Papua Province has the obligation to regulate and supervise and manage the potential of forest resources so that they are expected to have an impact on strengthening the economy of the Papuan people, both inside and outside forest areas.

"With the Pre-KKI Papua-West Papua Region, we hope to be the right place to discuss and unite the aspirations of representatives of the chambers who will fight on behalf of the Papua Province and Papuan Forests," he said.
