Operation Nemangkawi Changes Name to Operation Cartenz Peace 2022

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) changed the name of Operation Nemangkawi to Operation Damai Cartenz, after the operation period to maintain public order and security in Papua ended on January 25, 2022.

The Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan said that currently an operation plan is being prepared to distinguish the way of operating the Nemangkawi Operation and the Cartenz Peace Operation.

"Later on, the Nemangkawi Operation will end and its name will be changed to Operation Peaceful Cartenz 2022," Ramadhan said when confirmed in Jakarta, Monday (10/1/2022).

Ramadhan explained that the way of acting that was put forward in the Cartenz Peace Operation put forward a soft approach, namely prioritizing persuasive and preemptive efforts.

The members of the National Police assigned to the operation put forward the intelligence function, the public relations function, and the public relations function, supported by other functions, namely preventive functions, Sabhara, and law enforcement.

"So law enforcement is a supporting function," said Ramadhan.

Before the end of Operation Nemangkawi 2022, the Operations section of the National Police is currently preparing an operational plan and budget plan, including the number of personnel involved in the operation to maintain the security of Papua from harassment by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

The plan is that the Cartenz Peace Operation will be under the control of the Papuan Police Chief. In addition to prioritizing preventive efforts, the operation is supported by the Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum).

"Law enforcement exists, it is supported by the Gakkum Task Force. So the functions that are prioritized are intelligence, public relations, public relations. Supported by the Preventive Task Force and the Gakkum Task Force. This is not prioritized, but a supporting function," said Ramadhan.
 
Become a Territorial Operation
Previously, Phase II of Operation Nemangkawi ended on December 31, 2021. The National Police extended the period of Operation Nemangkawi until January 25, 2022.

The 25-day extension was to prepare for Operation Nemangkawi to become a regional operation led by the Papuan Police Chief.

The pattern of operation was changed by prioritizing the pattern of community welfare.

It is important to note that a change in the name of the police operation has also occurred in Poso, from the name Operation Tinambalo to Operation Madago Raya.
