The Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation Receives the 2021 Indonesian Cultural Award
The Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation in Mimika Regency, received the 2021 Indonesian Cultural Award in the category of cultural preservation.
"Especially for Mimika Regency, we must be grateful for this foundation. Moreover, it is supported by Freeport," said Siswanto, Representative of the Directorate, PT LK Kemendikbud to Tribun-Papua.com in Timika, Monday (24/1/2022).
He said the central government appreciated the foundation's performance.
"We ask for the support of the Mimika Regency Government and Freeport to cooperate with the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation through paintings and works made of wood such as statues and many other ornaments," he said.
"The point is that we need to appreciate this work so that it can be preserved and maintain its value. Because culture is the other side of Mimika's development," he said.
According to him, this foundation is part of Mimika's development, from a human and community perspective.
"We, the government, are very consistent in paying attention to the sustainability of this foundation so that they are always enthusiastic in their work. And the foundation is also invited to create a good environment," he said.
Assistant 1 of the Mimika Secretariat, Yulianus Sasari said, on behalf of the local government, his party appreciates and thanks the central government and the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation for preserving Papuan art and culture, especially carving sculptures typical of the Kamoro culture.
With this achievement, said Yulianus, the central government provides an opportunity to be competent at the national regional level in Indonesia.
"We must promote culture in the midst of world dynamics and developments. Therefore, maintaining local culture is our shared responsibility," he said.
He hopes that by giving this award, he can motivate everyone to improve and maintain and apply art and culture in Mimika.
Community Relations Manager, Ricarddo Komul representing Freeport management, congratulated the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation for this achievement.
"These are not cans. But with a long effort but the results have been achieved," said Ricarddo.
He continued, Freeport has collaborated with the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation since 1956 by carrying out various activities.
"Freeport has a commitment to support the development of local culture where the company operates because Freeport's commitment leads to international mining practices and now applies globally," he said.
"So mining companies must carry out cultural preservation activities, especially local culture," he said.
He said Freeport would continue to support the activities of the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation. Because this activity aims to preserve the cultural activities of the Kamoro tribe.
Meanwhile, the Fonter of the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation, Lulu Intarti, said that she had to make sure that the Kamoro culture persisted from generation to generation.
"What we received today was not our own struggle. But the participation of the Mimika Regional Government and Freeport and other partners," he said.
"I don't think that I will get this achievement. We will present this to the Mimika people," he said.
He hopes that the Maramowe Weaiku Kamorowe Foundation will continue to advance and achieve more in the future.
