Jayawijaya Education Office produces cultural storybooks for the Baliem Valley area

The Education Office (Disdik) of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province has produced a number of cultural story books for the people of the Baliem Valley (Jayawijaya) to be distributed to education units.

Head of the Jayawijaya Education Agency Natalis Mumpu in Wamena, Saturday, said that preparations were being made for the formation of a local content curriculum, but as a first step, the storybooks were distributed.

"For the story books that we have made from the service, later in the new school year they will be given to educational units starting from kindergarten, early childhood and elementary school up to grade 3. he said.

According to him, the storybooks were distributed to be a lesson for non-Papuan and Papuan children.

"This storybook is intended for zones 1-4, therefore for their students to learn about the culture that exists in this valley so that all students know them," he said.

Meanwhile, the local content curriculum cannot be applied in the new school year.

Natalis said the formation of a local content curriculum needs to be discussed with the culture and tourism department.

"When it comes to the local content curriculum, it can't be applied in the new school year because we just had a meeting with the Director General of Culture regarding this," he said.
