KKB Shoots Soldiers and Residents, Papua Police Chief Orders No Chasing

Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri ordered his personnel not to pursue the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) which at the end of last week carried out shootings and arson attacks in Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.

Currently, joint TNI-Polri personnel are only allowed to make guard around the center of Ilaga City.

"We remind you that there will be no more pursuit, we will play with the parameters of Ilaga City, so that we ensure that the disturbance will not reach the cities again," he said in Jayapura, Tuesday (22/2/2022).

In addition, Fakhiri confirmed that he would not send reinforcements because the security situation in Ilaga was still under control.

"If the escalation escalates, in my opinion as the Regional Police Chief, not that of the Resort Police Chief or others, I will decide how to strengthen the power to carry out measurable law enforcement in Ilaga and we see that it is still sloping," he said.

In accordance with the objectives of the Cartenz Peace Operation, explained Fakhiri, the security forces will try to prioritize prevention efforts to be able to overcome the situation at Puncak.

Therefore, the presence of regional heads is very important because their figures are prioritized for active communication with KKB.

"We have decided to prioritize areas that are often the targets of armed criminals. We have decided to prioritize the local government. The incident that occurred in Puncak Regency, I as the Regional Police Chief have been in active communication with the regent to be able to control the people," he said.
