Merauke Regency Government Will Effectively Booster Vaccination

With the increase in Covid-19 cases in Merauke, the Merauke Regency Government will make booster vaccinations or dose 3 effective for the community.

This statement was conveyed by the Regent of Merauke Romanus Mbaraka to reporters at Makorem 174/ATW, Thursday (10/2/2022).

However, before that, his party will hold a meeting with the local Covid Task Force to discuss the implementation of the three-dose vaccine and prepare further steps in order to suppress the rate of transmission.

"In a moment we will have a meeting to make the vaccine dose 3 effective," said Romanus.

Moreover, the peak activity for the Merauke City Anniversary on February 12 will be tightened by the prokes and even providing a vaccine post for the booster as well as the first and second doses.

"During the activities, both the entertainment stage and the peak night, we continue to fill in with health protocol advice and vaccinations."

The head of the Merauke District Health Office, dr. Nevile Muskita, asked the public to obey health protocols. The reason is that Papua's Litbangkes has confirmed that a new variant of Covid-19, namely Omicron, has entered Merauke.

Nevile Muskita said that Papua's Litbangkes had examined seven samples of people with Covid-19 sent from Merauke, of which six were positive for Omicron and one for Delta.

“There were eight samples sent, but one was of poor quality so it could not be analyzed. Seven samples were examined, the results were six Omicrons and one Delta," said Nevile by telephone, Thursday (10/2/2022).

It was said, the results of the Papuan Litbangkes examination in Jayapura had been confirmed by the Central Litbangkes of the Ministry of Health.

“There are only two keys, vaccines and prokes. For health protocols, at least people must wear masks and avoid crowds," he said.

Nevile continued, by intensifying the vaccination program and implementing the appropriate Prokes, the local government could control the pandemic in the region.

"What we see today is that people sometimes do not stay away from crowds, then physical distancing is also not maintained. Residents must obey the prokes for the good of everyone," he concluded.

For information, Papua Health Research and Development conducted an examination of 40 samples of Covid-19 patients using the Whole Genomic Sequencing (WGS)-Saracov-2 method on Wednesday (9/2/2022).

The results found the latest variant of Omicron, with details of 33 cases from Jayapura City and six from Merauke. Meanwhile, one positive condition is Delta from Merauke.
