Sorong City Government Ensures Safe Cooking Oil Stock

The Sorong City Government, West Papua Province, said that cooking oil in the area was not available and the stock was safe until April 2022.

Head of the Trade Division of the Sorong City Trade Office, Kris Wiryanto Subiono in Sorong, Friday (11/3/2022), said his party had held a meeting with distributors in the Sorong city to ensure the availability of safe cooking oil to meet the needs of the community.

He said that the actual cooking oil in Sorong city was scarce and stocks were available. "However, prices are not what they used to be because there has been an increase of up to Rp. 20,000 per liter due to the dynamics of rising prices nationally," he said.

According to him, specifically for subsidized cooking oil in the city of Sorong, the price is according to the government's stipulation of Rp. 14,000 per liter. According to reports from distributors, the distribution of subsidized cooking oil to the city of Sorong as many as 13 containers or 234 tons is certain to be able to meet the needs of the community until early April 2022.

Therefore, the Sorong City Government hopes that the public will not panic because cooking oil is not available in Sorong city. He also hopes that people will buy subsidized and non-subsidized cooking oil according to their needs, not desires.

Because if you buy as you wish there will be hoarding in the kitchen. "Pity other people also need it," said Kris.

Head of the Regional Economic and Natural Resources Division of the Sorong City Secretariat, Milan Latumeten, who gave a separate statement, said that his party had held a meeting with distributors in the city of Sorong and it was reported that the stock of many packaged fried foods was still safe. Therefore, he also asked the entire community not to panic because there was no shortage of cooking oil in the city of Sorong.

"We will follow up the meeting with distributors to go to the field to carry out inspections to ensure that the large stock, both subsidized and non-subsidized fried foods that have been reported are completely safe," added Milan.
