Biak Indigenous People Support Otsus and DOB

The special autonomy offered by the central government is actually aimed at the welfare of the Papuan people. That is why the Indigenous Peoples Institution (LMA) region II Saireri together with the Biak Numfor indigenous community made a declaration of support for the sustainability of the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law Number 02 of 2021 and the DOB in Segara Indah Bosnik Biak.

On this occasion, the Chairman of LMA Region II Saireri David Rumansara Saireri said that this activity is a support for government policies for the welfare of the Papuan people. "To hold a large traditional meeting, we invited the Kankain Karkara Biak (KKB) or the Customary Institution on the island of Biak to attend. Supiori, Numfor, and also the indigenous peoples of the archipelago in Biak,” said David.

According to David, this activity is to convey and listen directly to the aspirations of the traditional leaders on things that need to be developed in the future in this special autonomy. "So this is an aspiration that has been carefully stated so that it encourages us to carry out a declaration."

Meanwhile, JK Mandibodibo as Chair of KKB/Kankain Karkara Biak said that the Kankain Karkara Biak community supports the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua, especially in the Saireri Region, because it really helps us in facilitating development and accelerating the economic progress of the people in the Saireri Region.

"As for the Special Autonomy Volume II, we, all the traditional leaders of the Saireri Region, fully support its continuation based on the law with the hope that the welfare of the Papuan people will be prioritized. And we hope that the Special Autonomy will continue to accelerate the new autonomous regions (DOB) in the Saireri Customary Territory," he said.

This declaration activity was carried out to unite the opinions of the TABI community and the Papuan people in general in supporting the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law Number: 2 of 2021 & supporting the expansion of new autonomous regions in Papua Province, as well as supporting the Government in resolving problems with dignity for the sake of creating peace in Papua.

The contents of the Declaration of the Saireri Indigenous Peoples Territory of Biak Numfor Regency are to support all efforts to resolve conflicts in Papua with dignity in order to achieve a peaceful Papua. Encouraging the resolution of the Papuan problem through reconciliation and restitution towards a Safe Papua. And support the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law Number: 02 of 2021 and the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions towards a peaceful, secure and prosperous Papua.
