Hold a Peaceful Action, Thousands of Yapen People Support the New Guinea of North Papua Islands

Thousands of Yapen people from various components held a peaceful demonstration to support the establishment of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) for the Province of the North Papua Islands, Wednesday (20/4). The action began with a long march from the Trikora Serui square and ended at the Yapen DPRD office.
 
The presence of the community in the Yapen Islands Regency DPRD building was directly received by the Chairperson of the DPRD, Yohanis Raubaba and Deputy II, Fredolin Warkawani and other council members.

After being accepted by the council members, community representatives coordinated by the working team on the declaration of the formation of the new autonomous regions of the North Papua Islands Province together with representatives of tribal leaders gave speeches and gave a statement of full support for the formation of these new autonomous regions.

The Head of the Declaration Team for the Establishment of the New Guinea for the North Papua Islands, Mikha Runaweri, said that the aspirations of the people of the Yapen Islands Regency in the Saireri customary area that had been conveyed by the government through the DPR were only one, namely wanting the formation of a new autonomous region for the Province of the North Papua Islands.

"That's the only desire of the Yapen people, so we are here to convey and submit directly to the Yapen Archipelago Regency People's Representative Council," said the former chairman of the Yapen KNPI DPD in a statement issued by the RMOLPapua News Agency, Wednesday (20/4).

He hopes that the aspirations that have been submitted will be followed up as soon as possible according to the mechanism, following the discussion agendas in the DPR RI. So that this aspiration process can be accommodated and answered by the central government through government plans or programs.

The purpose of establishing a new autonomous region for the Province of the North Papua Islands itself, continued Mikha, was only one, namely to improve the welfare of the people in the Cendrawasih Bay area as well as shorten government services to the community. Moreover, the Saireri Bay area also has great services for the nation and state.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Yapen DPRD, Yohanis Raubaba said that after receiving the aspirations of the community and the working team for the formation of the new autonomous regions of the North Papua Islands Province, his party immediately followed up by holding a meeting, considering that the DPR RI's annual working calendar in determining autonomous regions was only a few days away.

"We will immediately hold a meeting with the regional government, because this involves several regencies including Biak Numfor, Waropen, Supiori, and Nabire regencies. So we have to discuss it with our district colleagues," explained Yohanis.
 
For this reason, Yohanis asked the people who had expressed their aspirations to be able to give them time to be able to work for the next few days. So that what the community hopes for in realizing the new autonomous regions will be conveyed according to the mechanisms and rules in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
