Jayapura Mayor Confirms Stunting Ambassadors and Genre Mothers

The Agency for Women's Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning for the City of Jayapura in collaboration with the PKK Mobilization Team at the district and sub-district levels throughout the City of Jayapura, carried out the inauguration of the Stunting Ambassadors and the Genre Mother of 2022, which took place at the Jayapura Mayor's office, on Tuesday (26/4/2022 ).

Stunting ambassadors will act to convey information and carry out socialization and promote education to PKK members in each kelurahan about the dangers of stunting for the next generation.

"So the ambassadors will be a channel of information and education about the dangers of stunting so that people understand and take precautions by starting from every home," said Betty Anthoneta Puy, Head of the Jayapura City Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and Family Planning Agency.

According to Betty, her party has also formed a family companion team that will assist Stunting ambassadors in providing information to the community regarding stunting prevention methods, especially regarding malnutrition for toddlers from the time they are in the womb.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano, in his speech conveyed that the task of the Stunting and Mother Genre ambassadors was to participate in socializing several prevention points such as marriage at an early age, pregnancy and childbirth at an age that is too young, too old, and the birth distance of children who are too close.

He added that the Stunting prevention program is a policy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for all regions to be implemented by regional heads, both governors and regents and mayors in order to break the chain of stunting or stunted growth due to malnutrition.

To note, the City of Jayapura is the first in Papua to carry out the Stunting Ambassador and Genre Ambassador program by cooperating with the administrators of the PKK driving team at the District and Village levels in the Jayapura City area.
