Nicolas Meset Calls the Expansion of Papua Province for People's Welfare

Former Free Papuan leader, Nicolas Meset, agreed that Papua would be expanded. This is for equitable development and the welfare of the Papuan people.

Nic, as he is called, said that the expansion based on seven customary areas was a blessing that God gave to the Papuan people.

"It is a blessing from God that the government gave the expansion of Papua. This is solely for the progress of the Papuan people. So that everything goes well, and the people prosper," he explained, Wednesday (20/4/2022).

According to him, with the expansion, all communities have their respective responsibilities to advance and prosper their people in accordance with the New Autonomous Region (DOB).

"If the division is in accordance with their customary territory, then everyone has responsibility for their territory," he said.

He emphasized that Papua was final through the recognition of the UN Security Council on November 19, 1969, which confirmed that Papua is part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

"So if there are plots, then the indications are that Papua is independent. I said the UN Security Council has recognized that Papua is part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. So the new autonomous regions should be welcomed, because the population of Papua is around 5 million people. If there is a new province then development can be carried out touch the community to remote areas," he explained.

Regarding fears that arise, such as the presence of non OAP (Indigenous Papuans) who come and fear of employment opportunities, it is better for the legislature and executive to make regulations to limit it.

Papuans, said Nic, still have special thoughts, still think for themselves and think that Papua only has Papuans.

"It must be shared. Because I said earlier, Papua is part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. I really appreciate Mr. Vice President who gave these seven provinces," he said.

It is also said that the government must prepare Papuan human resources to be able to work and be successful by not expecting money to fall from the sky.

"The important note is that Papuan children must be trained to work, don't be lazy. Trained to be able to work independently. Papuans are not lazy, but they must teach them to be accompanied to be successful," he said.

"The important thing is that the government has given a signal for expansion, prepare yourself, don't expect it to be like a shooting star from the sky or a morning star coming down from the sky. That dream is over now, how do we work for our own country and become masters in our own country," he said.
