The Jayapura City Manpower and Transmigration Office uses the Special Autonomy Fund to Develop OAP Workforce Skills

The Manpower Office (Disnaker) of Jayapura City, Papua has budgeted IDR 700 million through the special autonomy fund or Otsus to increase labor capacity for indigenous Papuan children.

“We are working for all Papuan children and prioritize Port Numbay [Jayapura City]. This is a form of local government service," said the Head of the Jayapura City Manpower Office, Djoni Naa, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Wednesday (30/3/2022).

Naa said, today's world of work has enormous challenges, so that improving skills and knowledge in work is needed to be independent, prosperous, and competitive for economic progress.

“The funds are divided into three training courses, namely a barber shop, beauty make-up, and security services. Security services are bigger, because they are in a hostel and have a license and we are working with the Papuan Police,” said Naa.

Naa said that Papuan children who were trained were immediately placed to work, such as banks, hotels and companies that needed security services while reducing unemployment in Jayapura City.

"Especially for security services alone there are as many as 50 people. This training will improve the quality and productivity of the workforce for indigenous Papuan children so that they are able to compete and have good skills,” said Naa.

Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru said the training was a good activity to create jobs as well as a step for the welfare of young Papuan people.

“Managing the workforce is complex. However, if this is successfully done, the company will get a good effect while increasing productivity and making it easier for employees to work to produce quality products,” said Rustan.

Rustan said, the quality of the workforce includes the skills or abilities possessed by the workforce in carrying out their work. Quality also includes formal education, how the workforce behaves and behaves.

“Workforce training is one of the local government's efforts to improve the quality of the workforce. Labor productivity can be influenced by a number of factors, ranging from the number of human resources, the difficulty of the work, personal and professional relationships between employees,” said Rustan.
