The Papua Provincial Government guarantees that Papuans will receive a free set top box facility
The Papuan Provincial Government (Pemprov) ensures that Papuans receive free set top box facilities to enjoy digital TV broadcasts at their homes.
Head of the Papua Province Communications and Information Office, Jery Yudianto, in a press release in Jayapura, Thursday, said that for the poor, the central government's Social Welfare Integrated Data (DTKS) and LPP Multiplexing have prepared a set top box for the underprivileged.
"For poor people, using a set top box can still enjoy digital broadcasts, even with analog TV," he said again.
According to Jery, the migration of analogue to digital TV (ASO/Analog Switch Off) will start on April 30, 2022 until November 2, 2022, as mandated by Law Number 11 Year 2020 concerning Job Creation.
"Technically regulated through PP 46/2021 regarding Post and Telecommunications (Postel) and broadcasting as well as other ministerial regulations," he said.
He explained that the first phase of ASO in Papua will enter on April 30, 2022 which includes Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, and Keerom Regency.
"Then the second stage will be held on November 2, 2022, in 10 other districts including Merauke, Jayawijaya, Yahukimo, Mamberamo Raya, Central Mamberamo, Yalimo, Nabire, Biak Numfor, and Supiori," he said.
He added that this digital TV is not streaming TV or cable TV. Digital TV is free TV and does not require a data package (free to air) with clean picture quality and clear sound.
"Of course, the biggest hope from the migration of analog TV to digital TV is that the use of spectrum/frequency that has been used for broadcasting can be efficient to spur the increase in digitalization in Indonesia," he said again.
