Acting Governor of West Papua Paul Waterpauw Asked by Jokowi to Maintain Political-Security Stability

Paulus Waterpauw officially became the Acting Governor of West Papua. He admitted that he was given a priority task from President Joko Widodo to maintain political stability and regional security.

"My first priority task is to encourage the creation of political stability, to ensure that the wheels of government run, and to ensure the security of the West Papua region," said Waterpauw in Manokwari, Friday (20/5/2022).
 
According to Waterpauw, President Jokowi's message was conveyed during his inauguration by the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian on May 12, 2022.

He invited the people of West Papua to help the government and related officials in creating security stability in the midst of the political climate ahead of the 2024 General Election.

This three-star retired General of the National Police stated that the second priority task in West Papua is related to handling the Covid-19 pandemic through health protocols and vaccinations.
 
"Although the positive cases of Covid-19 in West Papua have been observed to be sloping, it is necessary to pay attention to all parties, especially the achievement of vaccination in 13 regions must be controlled and improved," said the former North Sumatra Police Chief.
 
Waterpauw also expressed his gratitude to the former Governor of West Papua Dominggus Mandacan and Deputy Governor Muhamad Lakotani who have led West Papua through the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the last two years.
