Battalion 136/TS Task Force conduct fumigation to anticipate DHF in Papua

The Organic Raider Battalion Special Unit 136/Tuah Sakti (TS) conducted fogging or fumigation in Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, West Papua, to anticipate malaria and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreaks.

"This is a form of health service to help the surrounding community, especially in the Aifat District, to avoid malaria and dengue fever," said the Organic Raider Battalion Special Unit 136/TS Doctor Letda Ckm Chendy Endriansa in a written statement received in Tanjungpinang, Sunday.

He said the fumigation was carried out as an effort to prevent the early spread of the Aedes aegypti and Anopheles mosquitoes which can cause malaria and dengue fever.

According to Chendy, Papua is an area known to be endemic for malaria. In fact, he said, many victims had died from the disease caused by the anopheles mosquito.

"We are trying to prevent and suppress the spread of malaria and dengue fever, especially during the current rainy season," said Chendy.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Special Battalion Raiders Battalion 136/TS Lt. Col. Inf. Andi Ariyanto said that apart from preventing malaria and dengue fever, the fumigation carried out in residents' homes was aimed at helping the Aifat District community's difficulties in the health sector.

"With the fumigation, the community, Koramil, and Polsek in Aifat District can avoid malaria and dengue outbreaks," he said.

Maybrat Police Chief AKBP Gleen Rooi Molle appreciated the fumigation carried out by members of the Special Raider Battalion Unit 136/TS Task Force.

The Head of Police hopes that this activity is the first step of cooperation in assisting development and security in the Aifat District in Kumurkek Village.

"Hopefully this fumigation can build a close synergy between the TNI-Polri in the future," he said.
