Mayor of Jayapura: 'We all want Papua to progress' Expansion must be carried out
"We all want Papua to progress, Central Papua must have a university there, a standard hospital, and a mall there," said Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM).
Benhur said the establishment of a new autonomous region and the extension of special autonomy (Otsus) in Papua is very important.
This was said by BTM as he is familiarly called when he met with member of Commission I DPR RI Yan Permenas Mandenas at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Wednesday (20/4/2022).
BTM on this occasion also asked for several things that need to be considered by the DPR RI to be forwarded to the Central Government.
"There are several things that I want to convey to Pak Yan, so that they can be forwarded to the Central Government, so that they are followed up and responded quickly," said Benhur.
Through this opportunity, Benhur asked for three things that are expected to be realized by the DPR RI.
"First I ask, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Jayapura City to become the character of the Mayor of Jayapura after I finish my term of office," he said.
Related to this, Benhur emphasized to Yan that he did not want the position of the character of the Jayapura City Government to be occupied by officials from the Papua Provincial Government.
"Mr. Yan is fighting, don't let the provincial people who come here make a mess, I'm speaking clearly, in Jayapura City there are many immigrants, we also have to protect them," said Benhur.
Benhur said that Jayapura City has obtained WTP eight times in a row, has good infrastructure, excellent financial management arrangements, and well-served health and education.
So that the city he leads has become an agent of change for Papua, so for Benhur, this achievement must be continued by the Jayapura City Secretary.
In addition, Benhur also asked that Otsus be continued, because according to him Otsus has helped Papuans, especially the people of Jayapura City because they have made Papuans prosperous.
"I am a person who opposes, and who expels, if someone holds a meeting to reject Otsus, so that in Jayapura City no one refuses, because these people who incidentally reject Otsus, are against the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and want to ask for independence," he explained.
Furthermore, Benhur reiterated that Papua has legally entered the lap of the Republic of Indonesia since May 1, 1969, and cannot be distorted by anyone.
Then, the man from Port Numbay urged that the division of Papua should be carried out, and his party fully supports the formation of 3 provinces, namely South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains.
"The expansion plan will continue immediately, and don't listen to people who reject the expansion, because they have never asked the opinion of the Mayor of Jayapura," he stressed again.
The man who graduated from IPDN, once again claimed that the aspiration to reject the expansion came only from people who were against Indonesia, and aimed to ask for independence and freedom from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
The man who served as Mayor of Jayapura for two terms, emphasized his agreement on the division of Papua, because it is for equitable development, welfare, and shortening the span of control of community services.
"We all want Papua to progress, Central Papua must have a university there, a standard hospital, and a mall there," said Benhur emphasizing.
Therefore, as a Papuan native (OAP) Benhur believes that the division must be carried out, and that it becomes a fixed price.
"Then in terms of city security, basically Jayapura City is safe, peaceful, and peaceful, there are only certain people who are not on one side with Indonesia who hold demonstrations and cause chaos," he regretted.
Apart from his request, Benhur also informed Yan about the Covid-19 condition in the capital city of Papua Province.
"We report that the Covid-19 situation in Jayapura City has also decreased, the remaining 2 patients being treated per day," he said.
However, he said, Jayapura City is still at level 3 because it has low vaccination rates for the elderly and children.
"The achievement of the first dose of elderly vaccination is 37 percent and is still relatively low," he said.
Meanwhile, the first dose of vaccination for children was 18.24 percent, the second dose was 10.16 percent, and the third dose was 0.01 percent.
Overall, Benhur conveyed that the achievement of the Covid-19 vaccination in Jayapura City for the first dose reached 83.85 percent, the second dose 62.09 percent, and the third dose 10.6 percent.
"Pak Yan, we continue to pray that we will be free from the Covid-19 pandemic, and we can change the status from pandemic to endemic in Jayapura City," Benhur hoped.
Benhur also informed about the Jayapura City APBD in 2022, amounting to 1.3 trillion and Regional Original Income (PAD) reaching 250 billion.
"I have guarded this city for 10 years, always safe and peaceful, with a plurality of people," concluded Banhur.
