Encourage Productivity of Local Fishermen, Jayapura City Fisheries Service Do This



The Jayapura City Fisheries Service encourages the productivity of local fishermen by strengthening infrastructure.

The Head of the Jayapura City Fisheries Service, Matheys Sibi, said that his party has 3 excellent programs in the transition period.
 
"We at the Fisheries Service have 3 excellent programs that are ongoing, namely the development of capture fisheries, aquaculture, to strengthening the competitiveness of fishery products," said Matheys to Tribun-Papua.com in Jayapura, Wednesday (22/6/2022)

So far, according to him, the Jayapura City Fisheries Service has reached 2,139 local fishermen through the 3 empowerment programs.
 
He continued, to strengthen fishermen in the Papuan Orang Asli (OAP) and non-OAP categories, his party continues to provide strengthening production facilities and infrastructure (Sarpras).

"Sarpras provided so far are in the form of Fishing Equipment (API) and Fishing Aids (ABPI)," he said.

He said the types of assistance provided were in the form of safety equipment, outboard motors, katinting machines, and nets.
 
"The fishermen who have been recorded have received assistance through 3 superior programs that we continue to promote," he said.
 
Not only that, in the context of restoring fish resources in coastal areas, his party has also provided fish apartments to be released in the waters of Youtefa Bay, Jayapura.

"We are also trying to provide assistance and training for fishermen, which of course is expected to provide an understanding regarding maximizing the existing potential," he said.
 
He said that if local fishermen were given the strengthening of infrastructure, they would directly have qualified capabilities because they were supported by facilities.

"We hope that the assistance provided can be useful, right on target, and can be used as it should be," he said.
 
Just to note, specifically in the capture fisheries program, if there have been 2,000 fishermen who have been fostered by the Jayapura City Fisheries Service.

This is also a form of the Jayapura City Fisheries Service's effort in empowering local local fishermen to have competitiveness, both in terms of quality and productivity.
