A youth from Yapen, Yohanis Ayorbaba, expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini.

Thanks to the help of "Mama Minister" Yohanis was able to complete the construction of a longboat with fiberglass.

"I thank you for the help of "Mama Minister". Thanks to Mama's help, we Papuan youths were able to complete the ship. In Yapen there is no engine ship, we still use traditional boats," said Yohanis after attending a shipbuilding workshop (10/6/2022). ).

Yohanis is one of 15 participants in the workshop to build a long boat from fiberglass.

They came from Jayapura, Asmat, and Yapen Regencies.

The Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Tri Rismaharini took a photo with 15 participants of the workshop on making fiberglass longboats held at the Department of Shipping Engineering, ITS Surabaya. The workshop lasts for 10 days from June 1 to June 10, 2022.

The workshop is a collaboration between the Directorate for Remote Indigenous Community Empowerment (KAT) and Social Entrepreneurship with the Ministry of Social Affairs Directorate of Research and Community Service, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITS).

The workshop was held at the Department of Shipping Engineering ITS Surabaya for 10 days on 1 - 10 June 2022.

The workshop is a continuation of the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini to support the acceleration of development in Papua, by empowering the economy.

In his explanation after reviewing the workshop activities, the Minister of Social Affairs stated that this activity started with a request for a boat from a young man from Mamberamo.

"I love it. But they have to make their own. Furthermore, requests came from other regions. Finally a workshop was made," he said.

The discussion on ships is carried out to improve the economy of the Papuan people.

By switching from using traditional boats to fiberglass boats, it is hoped that the catch of Papuan fishermen will increase.

"The ship will not only be used to catch fish, but also as a means of transportation," he said. Currently, the target for shipbuilding is 27 units for Asmat Regency, 10 units for Mamberamo, and 12 units for Yapen.

The Ministry of Social Affairs does not only target seafarers. However, the Minister of Social Affairs will also prepare a program to empower Papuan mothers, both in the mountains and on the coast, with various empowerment programs.

These include training in sewing, weaving and farming for the youth.

"There are already farming activities. But we will improve the ability of young people in agriculture so that their business is based on knowledge of farming," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

There are still many social empowerment programs that will be carried out for the Papuan people.

If agricultural products can be developed, food processing facilities will be prepared.

Likewise, fish catches and marine products will be prepared for processing facilities.

Other business assistance includes workshops, packaging, branding, planting sunflowers and processing sunflower oil.
