Accelerate the construction of Rendani Airport, Regent of Manokwari: Becomes the East Gate of Indonesia
The Regent of Manokwari Hermus Indou is committed to accelerating the construction of the Rendani Airport, as the entrance to the capital city of West Papua.
As the capital and face of the province of West Papua, it must be supported by supporting facilities (airports) to support community mobility and tourists.
"We are currently developing the Rendani Airport, together with the provincial government and the ministry of transportation," said Hermus, to TribunPapuaBarat.com, Thursday (30/6/2022).
He said, for Rendani Airport, until now it is still being developed to be more competitive.
"We are trying to make the runway length for the Rendani Airport reach approximately 2,500 meters," he said.
So, in the future, Rendani Airport can be landed by wide-bodied and large planes.
"We will also try to schedule flights from Jakarta to Manokwari and vice versa to be direct," said the man from Arfak.
That way, if travelers want to visit Manokwari, they no longer think twice or three times in transit.
"In the future, the journey from Jakarta will no longer be a lion in Makassar and Sorong anymore," he added.
"We are pushing for Rendani Airport to increase its status to become an International Airport."
Hermus hopes that Rendani Airport will become the gateway to East Indonesia.
"Because neighboring countries such as Papua New Guinea, Australia and others, can go directly to West Papua via Rendani Airport," he concluded.
