The Papua Provincial Government provides mobile library services

The Department of Education, Libraries and Regional Archives (DPPAD) of the Papua Provincial Government carries out mobile library services by targeting residents or children who have not yet visited the public library in "Bumi Cenderawasih" - as it is called for Papua -.

Acting Head of the Regional Office of Education, Libraries and Archives of the Papua Provincial Government, Protasius Lobya, in a release sent to ANTARA in Jayapura, Thursday, said that currently regional public libraries visit their readers by car, motorbike and boat.

"With the number of COVID-19 which is decreasing considerably and the situation is almost normal, we have decided to resume (mobile library service, ed.)," he said.

He explained that the mobile library is part of the regional public library service with its operations using various means to come directly to the readers.

"So a mobile library is a library that moves by bringing library materials from one place to another that has not been reached by public libraries," he said.

He explained that the purpose of providing mobile library services is to ensure equal distribution of information and reading services to the public, to remote areas where there is no permanent library.

In addition, he said, helping public libraries in developing non-formal education for the wider community in the area.

The mobile library service, he said, is also to introduce books and other library materials to the public as well as increase interest in reading and cultivate a love of reading in the community.
