Paulus Waterpauw: Formation of the Province of Southwest Papua to Shorten the Span of Control

Acting Governor of West Papua Komjen Pol (ret) Paulus Waterpauw supports the expansion plan in West Papua Province. According to him, the plan to form the province of Southwest Papua which will divide West Papua is to shorten the span of control.

As is known, the House of Representatives (DPR) has approved the Draft Law (RUU) on the Establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua. "The establishment of Southwest Papua Province is to shorten the span of control," said Paulus Waterpauw in Sorong, Monday (11/7/2022).

"Hopefully, the province of Southwest Papua will knock the hammer soon. Because in Papua there are already three (new) provinces, our period in West Papua is trada (non-existent)," he said.

Waterpauw admitted that he had held a working meeting with the regents and mayors , they supported special autonomy and the establishment of New Autonomous Regions (DOB). There are two proposed DOBs. Apart from Southwest Papua Province, his party also proposed the establishment of Bomberai Province.

In addition to the new autonomous regions at the provincial level, his party also proposes new autonomous regions at the district and city levels . Such as West Manokwari Regency, Manokwari City, Fakfak City, Kokas Regency. Paulus said, as the representative of the central government in West Papua, his party would accommodate all aspirations for the welfare of the people in the region.
