The YPMAK team monitors scholarship recipients at UNIPA

The team from the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) as the manager of the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) partnership fund conducted monitoring and evaluation (monev) of scholarship recipients studying at the University of Papua (UNIPA) Manokwari, Monday.

YPMAK Deputy Monev Kristianus Ukago in Manokwari, Monday, said monitoring and evaluation activities were carried out so that scholarship recipients were running according to their goals and targets.

"This monitoring is carried out every year to see firsthand the current condition of children who receive scholarships from PT Freeport," he said.

This year, he said, there were 70 participants of the Unipa scholarship program with YPMAK.

YPMAK Education Division Head Feri Uamang said there are several conditions that must be complied with by scholarship recipients, especially in terms of the study period.

Participants, he said, must not exceed the specified study period, namely for the undergraduate program a maximum of five years and the third diploma program a maximum of three years.

"If someone completes the study period beyond that provision, then YPMAK will automatically stop awarding the scholarship to the person concerned," said Uamang.

According to him, the scholarships distributed by YPMAK are fully to support the education of the indigenous children of the Amungme and Kamoro tribes as well as the five kinship tribes in Mimika Regency, but must comply with the predetermined study time limit.

The scholarship program, which was sourced from PT Freeport, started in 2007 when YPMAK was still called the Amungme and Kamoro Community Development Institute (LPMAK), with an available quota of 3,000 people, ranging from elementary, junior high, high school, to tertiary education levels throughout Indonesia.

The monitoring and evaluation activities by the YPMAK Team were followed by discussions and visits to student residences.

cooperation coordinator Isak Semuel Erari said that Unipa was ready if asked to provide special guidance to scholarship recipient students to improve their performance.

"The facilities received through YPMAK are very good, if students are willing, Unipa lecturers are ready to provide special guidance in this scholarship program," he said.

Erari hopes that the educational empowerment program received by the native Kamoro and Amungme children can be put to good use.
