Sri Mulyani Prepares Election Funds for 3 New Papua Provinces

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani is currently preparing the 2024 general election budget for the three new Papua provinces.

The three are South Papua Province with Merauke as the capital, Central Papua Province with Nabire as the capital, and Mountain Papua Province with Jaya Wijaya as the capital.

"For these 3 regions, there will be articles specifically provided by the budget," he said at the DPR RI Building, Tuesday (5/7).

According to him, for the three new Papua provinces, the election budget needs to be increased. This is because the central government sees that the Papuan APBD is insufficient to be divided into these three new provinces.

"We can see from the side of the APBD that it is also not adequate for the implementation of the election earlier," he said.

However, the APBN post that will be used for additional budget has not been specified. Moreover, currently the discussion of the 2023 APBN is still ongoing and the 2024 APBN has not even been carried out.

"But we are all still in 2023 and 2024, the state budget is not finished yet," he said.

Previously, the government through the KPU and Commission II of the DPR RI agreed on an election budget of Rp. 76 trillion for the 2022 preparation period until the 2024 election. However, Sri Mulyani said this budget would still be researched.

"The Rp 76 trillion is still being looked at, isn't it? So we'll see everything later," he concluded as he walked away.
