Acting Governor of West Papua: West Papua's Economy Grows More Than 6 Percent
Acting (Pj) Governor of West Papua, Komjen (Ret.) Drs. Paulus Waterpauw said the West Papuan economy grew by 6 percent, during his three months of leadership.
West Papua's economic growth after Covid-19, based on reports from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Papua Province, and one of the existing banking institutions in Manokwari, West Papua.
"Thank God our economic growth has increased. I entered the first month minus our economic development. Yesterday I received a report from BPS, as well as from the leadership of Bank Indonesia in Manokwari, that our economic growth is 6 plus,” he explained while attending the opening of the Fourth Working Meeting of BPD HIPMI West Papua, in Kaimana, Friday (26/8).
According to Waterpauw, economic growth in other regions in Indonesia has only reached 5 percent. Economic growth in West Papua, which reached 6 percent, according to him, has begun to be exciting. Economic growth in West Papua, reaching 6 percent, is carried out by simple touches or movements in the economic field.
“We try to take advantage of the potential around our homes. Yesterday we held an event in Manokwari, namely an exhibition as well as Indonesian cuisine, which presented 100 tents. We leave it entirely to the community, to manage it through MSMEs," he said.
He said that inflation in West Papua is more than 2 percent, compared to 5 other regions in Sumatra where inflation is quite high.
