DPR: Establishment of Southwest Papua Province improves welfare

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Junimart Girsang, said that the establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua was aimed at improving the welfare of the community, elevating the dignity of the indigenous Papuans (OAP) through development and public services.

"The expansion of the Papua region is aimed at accelerating equitable development, accelerating improving public services, accelerating community welfare, elevating the dignity and worth of indigenous Papuans," said Junimart Girsang in Jakarta, Monday.

This was said by Junimart when reading the statement from the Indonesian House of Representatives regarding the Draft Law on the establishment of the Southwest Papua Province, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday.
 
According to him, through the development of the Southwest Papua Province, it is hoped that in the future it will be able to guarantee a harmonious relationship between the regional government and the central government, be able to maintain and maintain the territorial integrity of the country, and the establishment of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.

He explained that in terms of area coverage, Southwest Papua Province will have five district-level governments and one municipal-level government.
 
According to him, the coverage areas in the Bill on Southwest Papua Province are Sorong City, Sorong Regency, South Sorong Regency, Raja Ampat Regency, Tamrau Regency, and Maybrat Regency. According to him, the capital city of Southwest Papua Province will be located in Sorong City.

Previously, the DPR Plenary Meeting on Thursday (7/7) had decided that the Draft Law (RUU) on the Establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua was passed into a bill on the initiative of the DPR RI.

The bill was initiated by Commission II of the DPR RI and was subsequently given the mandate to discuss the bill until the new province in Papua was officially formed.
