OAP must use social media to market MSME products

The Biak Numfor Regency Government, Papua encourages micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) indigenous Papuans (OAP) to use social media in marketing the products of home industry businesses to increase family income.

"Marketing business products through development exhibitions is very limited in time, but if you use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, you can reach all regions in Indonesia," said Head of the Industry and Trade Office of Biak Regency, Numfor Yubelius Usior in Biak, Saturday (13/13). /8/2022).

According to Usior, the tendency for MSMEs, indigenous Papuans, is to market their business products to the market and at certain exhibitions.
 
"To change the way of marketing for Biak SMEs to be wider, the Department of Industry and Trade has begun to introduce other ways of marketing their business results by digitalization via social media," he said.

He explained how marketing on social media or online has been running, but most of them still sell their business products directly to the market.

"With the rapid development of the current digitalization era, business actors must adapt technological advances as a means of marketing the products of their home industries," he said.

He added that several household business products have been produced by Biak SMEs, including taro chips, sago, processed sago snack foods, Julung asar fish and other food and beverage products.
 
"In addition, handicraft products such as accessories for head crown decoration, to decorations typical of assisted women, household materials, various regional handicraf and traditional Tifa tools," he said again.

The ongoing MSME exhibition organized by the committee for the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia is expected to be a place for MSME players to market home-based industrial business products.

Field observations until Saturday, the location of Biak's development actors and MSMEs in the hangar area of Manuhua Air Base was still crowded with Biak people visiting to buy various household needs.
