5G Mining Technology Presents at Freeport, Convenience for the Mining World

Indonesia is the first country in Southeast Asia to use 5G Mining Technology. The first 5G Mining technology in Southeast Asia is present in Papua and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.

The inauguration of the first 5G Mining Technology in Southeast Asia was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo at PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Papua, Thursday (1/9).

Energy Watch Executive Director Mamit Setiawan appreciated the launch of 5G Mining technology, which is the first in Southeast Asia and is present in Papua.

This technology, said Mamit Setiawan, is very good for work at Freeport where access to information and transfer or data transmission via the internet is very much needed with strong network support, because a strong internet network can facilitate the work of officers at Freeport.

"I think this program is very good for the government, it's a good collaboration for Telkomsel with PT Freeport because with this 5G program it will certainly make it easier, later for the mining world, especially for Freeport, what is currently being done is to facilitate access to data transfer, "said Mamit when contacted, Saturday (3/9).

In addition to sending data or documents, 5G Mining technology is also able to help control systems in mining areas. So far, the network system in the Freeport area has been the main obstacle, so that the existence of 5G Mining technology is also able to increase the work productivity of Freeport employees.

"Also in controlling access and also monitoring activities in mining, moreover we know that Freeport is an underground mining where sometimes signals or this becomes an obstacle," he said.

"With this collaboration, it is hoped that it can help and make it easier for all PT Freeport activities, both employees and companies, in improving their performance in accessing data and various information and making it easier for all parties with the 5G program," he added.

Mamit is well aware that the development of 5G Mining technology requires a large budget, so it takes a long time to generalize this 5G Mining technology in all mining areas in Indonesia.

"Yes, for now, this activity requires a large investment, especially for Telkomsel 5G, this is not evenly distributed in Jabodetabek. It is extraordinary for this program at Freeport and I think that in the future Mind ID as a mining sub-holding must be able to ensure that their mining area can or does not need access to 5G in order to increase the productivity of the company's performance," he explained.

Even so, Mamit is very optimistic that the expansion of the reach of 5G Mining technology can be carried out in other areas, where the state-owned company Mind ID and Telkomsel can expand their cooperation in advancing mining in Indonesia.

"If there are dots, I think the names of the mining locations can be continued in the future, this collaboration between mind id or with Telkomsel or with other subsidiaries so that this program can run well and in the future can provide sufficient benefits significant for the mining industry," he said.

In essence, Mamit said the launch of Minim 5G technology by President Jokowi was very good for the development of mining in Indonesia, especially for large mining companies such as PT Freeport in Papua.

"It's really very good and provides convenience, of course, related to data access, especially," he concluded.
