Kapolda invites West Papuans to maintain peace

West Papua Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga invites the local community to participate in maintaining security and peace from activities that have the potential to disrupt public order.

"Security and peace are the main assets for accelerating development in an area. Therefore, I urge the people of West Papua to express their aspirations in peaceful ways, not by blocking public road facilities or government offices," said the Kapolda in Manokwari, Monday.

The Kapolda stated that persuasive efforts would soon be taken by meeting with prominent figures or interested persons to provide understanding so that it would not have a broad impact on the security situation of the West Papua region.

"There are peaceful ways that can be taken. We will provide an understanding first so that it becomes the public's attention before taking further action according to the authority that is in our hands," said the Kapolda.

It is known that as of Sunday night, the trans-West Papua land route between the regencies of Manokwari, Tambrauw, Maybrat and Sorong was still blocked by residents with the aspiration to reject the four districts in Tambrauw Regency from being included in the administrative area of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Southwest Papua Province.
