KONI Appreciates President Jokowi and PTFI Launches Papua Football Academy (PFA)



President Joko Widodo officially launched the Papua Football Academy (PFA) facilitated by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Wednesday (31/8/2022).

Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua Province, Kenius Kogoya, SP, M.Si appreciated President Jokowi's steps to provide space for Papuan children to develop their talents, interests, especially in the sport of football. Kenius said the launch of the PFA is a very good thing and we appreciate President Jokowi and PT. Freeport can realize what the Papuans want.

"Yes, in the past, people without school were still extraordinary in cultivating round skins and being able to take part at the national and world level, especially now that there is an academy, of course these children will be the future of Papua and the Indonesian national team in the future," he said. Therefore, after the launch of the PFA, Kenius hopes that Papua can become a center for football players from Papua for Indonesia.

“We hope that all people will support the presence of PFA. Once again, we appreciate the extraordinary President Jokowi, as well as PT Freeport who can realize PFA's presence on Cenderawasih Earth," he said.

During the launch of the PFA, President Jokowi was asked to take the first kick. Furthermore, the head of state and the children played soccer with 30 young players. President Jokowi was accompanied by a number of Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet, including the Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali, the Minister of Investment/Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board, Bahlil Lahadalla, and the Minister of SOEs, Erik Thohir.
