Regent Freddy appreciates that Kaimana residents are enthusiastic about cleaning up trash

The Regent of Kaimana, West Papua, Freddy Thie, appreciated the enthusiasm of local residents under heavy rains who took care of picking up and cleaning up trash along the coast from Air Tiba Beach to Bantemi Kaimana Beach on Saturday morning.

The activity was held to commemorate World Cleanup Day.

"It's amazing, I'm really very proud, even though it's raining, Mama and Papa all come down and clean up the garbage. This is proof that awareness of cleanliness in Kaimana City is starting to emerge," said Regent Freddy when contacted by ANTARA from Manokwari, Saturday.

According to him, the growing awareness of the local community in maintaining environmental cleanliness is a capital in realizing Kaimana as a Tourism City.

"Awareness of a sense of belonging to this country is a shared capital according to the local government's vision to realize Kaimana as a Tourism City," he said.

The active involvement of Kaimana residents to participate in cleaning up the waste, said Freddy, cannot be separated from the active role of the Kaimana Environmental Service (DLH) and the UPTD for Solid Waste who held the WCD movement.

"Thank you to all the committees who joined to make this movement a success together with DLH and the UPTD for Waste. Let's continue to protect and take care of the Kaimana Zero Waste movement, with a sweep of responsibility," said the number one person in Kaimana Regency.

In the WCD, residents are given coupons and plastic waste which is then exchanged for rice according to the weight of the garbage collected.
Kaimana Regent Freddy Thie also signed the Kaimana Zero Waste declaration to Kaimana City Tourism during the commemoration of World Cleanup Day, Saturday (24/9/2022).

This year, Kaimana Regency is targeting to win the Adipura trophy, which is an award given to cities or regencies in Indonesia that are successful in cleanliness and management of the urban environment.

The Kaimana Regency Government already has Regent Regulation Number 31 of 2021 concerning Waste Disposal Hours.

Referring to the Perbup, the waste disposal hours are set from 18.00 WIT or 6 pm to 22.00 WIT or 10 pm.

Meanwhile, during the day from 6 am to 6 pm, Kaimana residents are prohibited from throwing garbage. If there are individuals who violate these provisions, they will be subject to fines.

Not only that, since last year the Kaimana Regency Government has also launched the Kaimana Zero Waste program by encouraging the active role of the apparatus at the Neighborhood Association (RT), Residents Association (RW), Kelurahan and Village (Desa) levels.
