Papuan Youth Leaders Confused Luke Asks To Be Tried Using Customary Law

The request of the family and attorney of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to examine the corruption case that ensnared him in the open field and witnessed by many people, received criticism. A youth leader from Jayapura Regency, Papua, Robert Entong questioned whether Lukas would be punished by a criminal or customary law related to a corruption case.
 
According to him, Lukas had violated government regulations regarding receiving gratuities worth Rp 1 billion. So the law used to examine Luke uses the applicable rules set by the government. Robert is even confused if the sentence imposed on Luke uses customary law, such as being tried in an open field.

"Lukas became governor of Papua because the people elected him using government law. We never elected him to be the chief of the tribe," Robert told reporters in Jayapura, Papua, Tuesday (11/10/2022).

Robert also asked Luke to be chivalrous and willing to be responsible for all his actions according to the applicable law. "Checking in the room can be seen by the public because there is already mass media and television that can broadcast so that people can see," he said in a press release.

Robert considers that the attitude of Luke and his family is complicated in order to escape the bondage of the law. He encouraged Lukas to have the courage to prove to KPK investigators related to the case that involved him. If it is not proven, he must be released. "Don't bring up customs and use society as a place of refuge from mistakes," said Robert.

To the residents who are still protecting Lukas by guarding his private residence in Koya Tengah, Jayapura City, Robert urged them to go home. "Hundreds of people gather together, carry arrows, carry axes, making us the people of Jayapura restless. Residents are always worried, cannot work in peace," he said.
