The Jayapura Regent inaugurated the KMAN VI workshop monument



The Regent of Jayapura, Papua Province Mathius Awoitauw inaugurated the VI Indigenous Peoples Congress (KMAN) meeting monument in Yakonde Village, Waibu District.

In a written statement received in Jayapura, Friday, Mathius, who is also the General Chair of the Committee for the Congress of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (KMAN) VI, said that the monument will be a witness to the struggle of indigenous peoples and become a source of pride in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia or NKRI.

"I am proud and appreciate the cohesiveness of the local community where the community can serve guests from various ethnicities and religions throughout the region who take part in KMAN activities," he said.

He explained that the construction of the monument did not use funds from the KMAN VI committee but the initiative of the indigenous people of Yakonde Village.

"This is proof of tolerance for the Indigenous people of the archipelago who are warmly welcomed and served by the local indigenous people," he said.

He added that the KMAN VI workshop monument is not only in Yakonde village but also in 12 traditional villages that have become meeting places as well as Papuan indigenous people.

The construction of the monument for the KMAN VI gathering, the participants of KMAN VI brought stones from each participant in their area.

"So we express our gratitude to all KMAN VI participants who have brought stones in the construction of the monument," he said again.
