Wamendagri Wetipo: Three Papua New Guineans are ready to be inaugurated at the end of October 2022

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) John Wempi Wetipo said the three provinces that became the New Autonomous Region of Papua were ready to be inaugurated and the inauguration of the acting governor for each province at the end of October 2022.

"Based on the results of the Papua New Guinea Task Force Team for two weeks in South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains, they have updated data, information and land status which will become the acting governor's office," he told ANTARA in Jayapura, Sunday.
 
According to Wempi, in terms of budget, in this case, grant funds have been prepared from the central government, the parent province, and each district around Papua Mountains, South Papua, and Central Papua.
 
"So if there is no change in the schedule, then no later than the end of October 2022 there will be the inauguration of the Three Papua New Guineans as well as the inauguration of the acting governor," he said.
 
He explained that the regulation stipulates that the inauguration of the province and the inauguration of the acting governor are carried out after six months of the law being enacted. However, in order for three regions to participate in the 2024 General Election, it needs to be accelerated so that they can participate in the 2024 General Election stage.
 
"Now the stages of the election are underway, including the registration of candidates. Therefore, the acting governor must be sworn in in order to participate in the 2024 election," he said.

According to Wempi, in order for a government to use the budget, the province must have local officials.
 
"For the names of the existing officials, only the inauguration will be in October," he said.
 
He added that his party is currently looking at which province will be the center of the inauguration because the implementation is only centered in one province.
