3 Papua New Guinea Inaugurated, Tito: De Facto, Provinces in Indonesia Become 37



As of today, there are 37 provinces in Indonesia from 34 previously. The addition of three new provinces is an expansion of the province of Papua. The three new autonomous regions or Papua New Guineans are South Papua Province, Central Papua Province, and Papua Mountains Province.

"Today, Friday, November 11, 2022 in Jakarta, I am the Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia hereby inaugurate the Provinces of South Papua, Central Papua Province, and Papua Mountains Province as provinces in Indonesia," said the Minister. Domestic Affairs Tito Karnavian inaugurated three Acting Governors and inaugurated the three New Autonomous Regions (DOB) Papua on Friday, November 11, 2022.

The three names who will serve as Acting Governor of the Papua New Guinea region are Apolo Safanpo as Acting Governor of South Papua, Ribka Haluk as Acting Governor of Central Papua, and Nikolaus Kondomo as Acting Governor of Papua Mountains.
 
In his speech, Tito stated that the de facto number of provinces in Indonesia had increased to three, after previously de jure laws were made for three new autonomous regions on July 25 in Papua.

"Today, the de facto number of provinces in Indonesia has increased by three, from 34 to 37," he said.

On the same day, the three new Acting Governors took the oath of office guided by Minister of Home Affairs Tito and signed the minutes of the oath of office and the integrity pact.
 
The three officials will have several duties and obligations, one of which is facilitating and managing their respective regional finances in accordance with statutory regulations.

Tito Karnavian asked the three acting (pj.) governors of the new autonomous regions (DOB) provinces in Papua, namely South Papua, Highlands Papua and Central Papua to maintain political and governmental stability while they were in office.

"I have communicated with them. I have conveyed a lot. One is political stability and government, number one," Tito told reporters after inaugurating the three new provinces and inaugurating the three acting governors of the new autonomous regions at the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Jakarta, Friday.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, it is important to maintain political and governmental stability so that the development of the regions of South Papua, Highlands Papua, and Central Papua can run well and optimally.
