Bakamla Jayapura distributed 30 life jackets to fishermen

The Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) through the Jayapura Marine Security and Safety Monitoring Station (SPKKL) provided 30 life jackets to fishermen assisted by the All Indonesian Fishermen Association or HNSI, Papua Province, Sunday.

Jayapura SPKKL Head Captain Ozzy Eko Wijaksono Wibowo in Jayapura, Sunday, said the provision of life jackets was a form of concern for fishermen as well as to establish friendly relations.

Wibowo said that his party appealed to fishermen to always prioritize safety when carrying out fishing activities in the sea in the future.

"We also hope that fishermen assisted by HNSI will also become Bakamla's eyes and ears if they find foreign fishing boats in Jayapura waters, bad weather and even accidents at sea," he said.

He added that in 2023 his party also plans to provide lights that will be used on fishermen's boats.

Meanwhile, DPD Chairperson of the Indonesian Fishermen Association of Papua Province Juber Sitorus said life jackets were needed by fishermen in maintaining safety and security at sea.

He explained that the recipients of life jackets from Bakamla were 30 people including fishermen and also marine cage entrepreneurs.

"So we appreciate Bakamla Jayapura for the life jacket assistance, hopefully in the future there will also be moral assistance given to our fishermen," he said.

He added that currently there are as many as 2,000 fishermen, both native Papuans and non-Papuans, who are members of the HNSI of Papua Province.
