Hermus Indou: The Manokwari MSME Exhibition is proof of readiness to compete nationally
The Government of Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province, assessed that the exhibition of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the area was proof of the readiness of local craftsmen to compete and compete nationally.
The Regent of Manokwari, Hermus Indou, in Manokwari, Monday, reminded MSMEs, especially the handicraft industry, that it is time to 'grade up' considering that Manokwari Regency holds two statuses at once, namely as the Center of Civilization in Papua and the Capital of West Papua Province.
"MSMEs must be able to be at the forefront and provide examples and role models for regions that were expanded from Manokwari Regency and also other areas that are still within the territory of West Papua Province," said Hermus.
He expressed his hope that MSMEs in Manokwari will increase handicraft products that meet market demand and can continue to increase regional competitiveness to contribute to regional economic growth.
The increase in MSMEs in Manokwari is also considered to be aimed at providing job opportunities and bringing in regional income, including per capita income for craftsmen.
The Manokwari government, called Hermus, wants the MSME products produced to gradually reduce Manokwari's dependence on MSME products, which are still imported from outside Papua.
"Because crafts and agricultural products, frankly, we still bring in from outside. So with the exhibition which was attended by 22 SMEs today, we hope they can meet the needs of the people in our area for handicraft products," said Hermus.
Chairperson of the Manokwari Regency National Craft Council, Febelina Indou stated that the MSME exhibition held at Manokwari City Mall (MCM) involved not only group and individual MSME actors but also schools, both junior and senior high schools and vocational schools.
He said the Dekranasda would gather MSME actors to accommodate handicraft products so that there would be an increase in the handicrafts produced by MSMEs, including increasing MSME creativity in producing handicraft products in the future.
The various handicraft products displayed by the MSMEs include woven bag crafts, household necessities made of coconut fiber, plastic waste recycling, and processed products from various agricultural commodities such as sweet potatoes and breadfruit.
The MSME exhibition, which will be held until November 2, 2022, is part of the agenda for the Month of Mutual Cooperation in order to welcome the 124th Anniversary of Manokwari which will be commemorated on November 8, 2022.
