Police Will Take Action on Residents Bringing Morning Star to Filep Karma's Cemetery

The police forbade residents and sympathizers of the Free Papua activist, Filep Jacob Semuel Karma, to carry the Morning Star flag at the funeral today. Police said they would not tolerate this.

"I told them yesterday. Today there should be no symbols or Morning Star flags," Jayapura Police Chief Kombes Victor Mackbon told reporters, Wednesday (2/11/2022).

For information, the procession of Filep Karma's coffin on Tuesday (1/11) was marked by the action of sympathizers carrying the Morning Star flag. The same flag was also used to cover Filep Karma's coffin.

"I emphasize to them, if there are still some, we will take strict action. And I have established communication so that the group does not turn into a mess. So please respect all of us and don't do what we want," said Victor.

Victor said that his party seemed to be tolerant of the Morning Star flag brought by Filep Karma's sympathizers. But today he emphasized that if this happened again, it would be part of a provocation.

"So why did it seem yesterday that there was omission, we just didn't want friction with the masses who were easily emotional at that time and were still asking for answers to the cause of the deceased's death. We banned yesterday. But they didn't want to. But we can't act. " he said.
