ICW Calls the Presence of the Chairperson of the KPK at Luke Enembe's House a Kind of Joke

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said that the presence of the head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri at the house of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was like a joke.

ICW researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, said that his party had not yet understood the urgency of Firli Bahuri's presence to Lukas Enembe's house in Papua.

"Until now, we really don't understand the urgency of a KPK chairman, Firli Bahuri, to attend the direct examination of Lukas Enembe at his residence," Kurnia said in a written message to the media crew, Friday (11/4/2022).

According to Kurnia, the examination only needs to be attended by KPK investigators and a medical team from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).
 
Kurnia said, referring to Article 21 paragraph (1) of the new KPK Law, it is no longer stated that the KPK leadership holds the status of investigators as stipulated in the previous law.

On the other hand, said Kurnia, Firli Bahuri is also not a doctor who can check a person's health condition.

"So, his presence at Luke's residence, especially to shake hands like that, is more like a joke that invites laughter in the eyes of the public," said Kurnia.

Kurnia then revealed that up to now Firli has met the litigants twice.

In May 2018, Firli Bahuri met with the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Muhammad Zainul Majdi or Tuan Guru Bajang.

At that time, the KPK was investigating allegations of corruption in PT Newmont's share ownership involving the NTB Provincial Government.

After that, the KPK stated that Firli, who was then Deputy for Enforcement, had committed a serious ethical violation.

"This shows that Firli has not had ethical standards as a KPK leader since the beginning until now," said Kurnia.

Previously, Firli accompanied the examination of the KPK investigators and the IDI medical team at the residence of Lukas Enembe, Koya Tengah District, Jayapura, Papua.

Firli's arrival to Lukas Enembe's house was accompanied by the Papua Police Chief, the Cenderawasih Military Commander, and the Regional BIN Head (Kabinda).

Firli said that the next legal step to be taken by the KPK regarding the Lukas Enembe case would depend on the results of the investigation by the investigators and the medical team.

"The next step, of course, is that we will review the results of our examination, both from the investigative team, including the medical team that we brought earlier," said Firli in his official statement, Thursday (11/3/2022).

The KPK previously announced that it would send a team of investigators and an independent team of doctors from IDI to examine Lukas Enembe at his residence, Koya District, Jayapura, Papua.
 
Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata emphasized that the investigators did not come to carry out a forced pick-up, but instead examined them as suspects and had medical examinations.

"In the context of Luke Enembe's medical examination and Lukas Enembe's examination as a suspect, there is no forced pick-up. Again, not for forced pick-ups," Alex said at a press conference at the KPK's Red and White building, Monday (24/10/2022).

It is known that Lukas Enembe has been named a suspect in alleged bribery and gratification related to projects originating from the Papuan APBD in early September.

However, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not succeeded in conducting an examination of Lukas Enembe, who always claims to be sick.

In addition, a number of people gathered in front of Lukas Enembe's house in Papua.
