Ministry of Village: Expansion of Papua Province accelerates equitable distribution of development

The Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT) assesses that the division of the Papua Province will accelerate the distribution of development and peace in Papua.

Mendes PDTT Abdul Halim Iskandar in a written statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday believes that with the division of the province, the people of Papua will be more prosperous because they can shorten the span of control of government services.

In addition, he added, regional heads in each region could increasingly focus on improving people's welfare, so that conflict resolution and misunderstandings would be more easily resolved.

"Yes, hopefully it can be more conducive. Handling problems can also be easier," he said while receiving a visit by the Acting Mayor of Jayapura Frans Pekey. The same thing is also believed by Frans Pekey who said that the three New Autonomous Regions (DOB) of Papua are a manifestation of the government's attention to Papua. He also thanked the Ministry of Village PDTT for the village funds that had been distributed and the presence of village assistants.

“It is true that now you can see where it is located, who is responsible. Thank you, we got village funds. There is a companion," he said. As is known, the Ministry of Home Affairs has inaugurated three new provinces in Papua, namely South Papua, the capital city of Merauke, Central Papua, the capital city of Nabire, and Papua Mountains, the capital city of Jayawijaya. The basis for establishing the three new provinces is Law Number 14 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the South Papua Province, Law Number 15 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the Central Papua Province and Law Number 16 of 2022 concerning the Formation of the Papua Mountains Province.

With these three new provinces, the total number of provinces in Indonesia will be 37, with 36 of them receiving Village Funds. However, this will be adjusted to existing regulations along with government structures and policies.
