Perum Bulog Papua says rice stocks are safe for the next four months

The Perum Bulog Regional Office for Papua and West Papua stated that the availability of rice stocks reached 32 thousand tons or was sufficient to meet the people's needs for four months.

Deputy Head of the Papua and West Papua Bulog Regional Offices, Dedy Apriliady, said in Jayapura on Friday that his party continues to maintain food stability so that prices have not fluctuated so far.

"But indeed Papua still depends on foreign countries, such as shipments from South Sulawesi, West Java, East Java, Jakarta and others," he said.

According to Dedy, the current supply of rice can be met from Merauke Regency for local needs, although some of the rice has also been shifted to a number of districts/cities in Papua.

"Papua is not yet self-sufficient in rice, because Merauke's rice is still limited to meeting local needs and some of the rice has been shifted to Timika, Jayapura, Manokwari and Sorong. But to meet the needs of Papua and West Papua we are still bringing in from outside," he said.

He explained that his party had not yet given a signal to the government to make alternatives in an effort to meet the government's supply of rice reserves (CBP), one of which was by importing.

"Based on data on the supply of medium-type Public Service Obligation (PSO) rice that will be distributed to the TNI-Polri and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) it is still in the safe category," he said again.

With a total of 25 Bulog warehouses on standby throughout the Papua region and resilience maintained for the next four months, it is hoped that the public will not have to worry, especially since there is a bargain market that opens every working hour.
