The Wamendagri hopes that the four new autonomous regions will provide great prosperity for the people of Papua

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) John Wempi Wetipo hopes that the existence of four new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua can provide great prosperity for the local community.

"Hopefully it will have a major welfare impact for the people in Tanah Papua," John Wempi told reporters after attending the signing of the 2022-2025 Waste Management Action Plan in the Citarum Watershed Area in Jakarta, Friday.

He then added that the Ministry of Home Affairs hopes that the four new autonomous regions of Papua, namely South Papua, Highlands Papua and Central Papua which have been inaugurated and Southwest Papua which will soon be inaugurated following the ratification of the Bill on the Establishment of the Southwest Papua Province into law can become a pilot project for them in adopting the dignity, degree, and dignity of the Papuan people so that they can live a better life.

On the same occasion, John also conveyed that the Ministry of Home Affairs hopes that the inauguration of Southwest Papua as a new province in Papua and the inauguration of its acting governor can be carried out soon. Thus, he continued, Southwest Papua could take part in the 2024 elections.

"We hope that the inauguration and inauguration of the acting Governor of Southwest Papua will be accelerated so that we can take part in the 2024 elections," he said.

Previously on Thursday (17/11), the DPR RI Plenary Session approved the Draft Law (RUU) concerning the Formation of the Southwest Papua Province to become law.

On that occasion, member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Guspardi Gaus, hoped that a special autonomy policy for Papua Province would not only be able to overcome conflict problems, but could also accelerate development.

The purpose of the division of the province in Papua, said Gaus, is contained in Article 93 of Government Regulation Number 106 of 2021 concerning Authority and Institutional Implementation of the Special Autonomy Policy for Papua Province.

The regulation states that expansion is to accelerate equitable development, improve public services, community welfare, and the dignity of the indigenous Papuans (OAP).
