UNICEF invites the media to increase sanitation education for Papuans

Chief of Wash United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Indonesia Kannan Nadar invited the mass media in Papua Province to increase education and advocacy about the importance of sanitation to all elements of the citizens of "Bumi Cenderawasih".

"The sanitation program is an important thing to maintain in realizing public health in Tanah Papua," he told ANTARA in Biak, Tuesday.

On Monday (7/11), Kannan Nadar visited Biak to attend the STBM declaration of 105 villages and the elimination of malaria in Biak Numfor in 2024.

He said the role of the mass media in promoting sanitation education was very important in order to disseminate information on public health in Papua.

Moreover, he said, with various strategic government policies in the fields of health, education and the fulfillment of children's rights, it can be educated through the publication of writings or photos.

With the incessant media providing education through writings about sanitation, according to him, it is hoped that citizens can receive correct information so that it can be applied in daily life.

"UNICEF, which is part of the United Nations which is engaged in the fulfillment of children's rights, seeks to provide technical matters and assistance, including to the Biak Numfor Regency Government," he said.

He expressed his gratitude to the mass media for their concern in educating the people of Tanah Papua about the importance of maintaining sanitation in every household.

"We appreciate the journalists who really care about supporting the sanitation program for the people in Tanah Papua, especially from the Biak Numfor Regency," said Kannan Nadar.
