PLN Succeeds in Maintaining Electricity Supply At Night and Christmas Day, Christians Worship With Joy

PT PLN (Persero) has succeeded in maintaining the reliability of electricity supply on Christmas Eve and Day, especially in churches throughout Indonesia to ensure that Christians can worship with joy.

Main Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo in a written statement, Monday (26/12/2022) said that PLN is alerting all electricity systems throughout Indonesia. Starting from the primary energy supply side for all power plants to standby on the transmission and distribution network side.
 
"We have prepared the best we can so that the atmosphere of worship can take place smoothly and full of joy because the electricity supply is safe," said Darmawan.

Darmawan detailed several areas as centers for holding Christmas services. The North Sumatra region has a capacity of 1,933 Mega Watt (MW) with a peak load of 1,686 MW, the capable power of DKI Jakarta is 7,801 MW with a peak load of 3,332 MW, the capable power of North Sulawesi is 950 MW with a peak load of 719.44 MW, the capable power East Nusa Tenggara is 337.95 MW with a peak load of 224.07 MW, and the capacity of Papua & West Papua is 517.6 MW with a peak load of 304.37 MW.

"Regarding the adequacy of electricity for the Nataru period, the power supply is 44.4 Giga Watt (GW) with a projected peak load on New Year's Eve of 34.6 GW. This means that in terms of electricity supply PLN is sufficient to cover all community activities with an operating reserve of 9.8 GW. With sufficient reserves, we can serve the community well," he explained.

Darmawan added that the "stockpile" of coal, the availability of gas supplies and fuel for power plants are in a safe position nationally. PLN designs an interconnection system where there is a "balanced" load arrangement so that it is able to provide a reliable electricity supply.

"We are also developing digitization of our generator management, transmission, distribution, to customer service. This year's PLN electricity system is in the best reliability in PLN's history," concluded Darmawan.

PLN has set a standby period for the Nataru 2023 holiday from December 19 2022 to January 4 2023. During this standby period PLN alerts more than 3,000 posts and 78,000 personnel spread throughout Indonesia to maintain electricity reliability.
