Welcoming the New Year's Eve, Jayapura Residents Asked to Keep Comfort Together

In welcoming the ceremonial turn of the New Year's Eve, Jayapura City residents are asked to maintain comfort together.

The Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey, told Tribun-Papua.com Wednesday (28/12/2022).

"There has been a Mayor's instruction letter issued regarding how to maintain mutual comfort, including one limiting the operating hours of nightclubs and limiting alcohol," he said.

According to Frans, celebrating New Year's Eve has indeed begun to loosen up due to the decline in cases of the Covid-19 pandemic, but we must be orderly and maintain comfort.

"Don't be reckless for those who drive, and don't do additional activities or movements that disturb public order," he explained.

Frans suggested that the turn of the year moment should be celebrated with gratitude and reflection on what was done the previous year.

"For those who commit violations of the rules or criminal cases, of course they have to accept the consequences. There are security forces who are always on standby," he stated.

Previously it was known, ahead of Christmas and New Year (Nataru) the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey, issued instructions in which one of the contents was to limit the circulation of alcohol during the Nataru moment.

This is clearly stated in the Jayapura Mayor's Instruction Number 9 of 2022, concerning restrictions and prohibitions on selling, consuming alcoholic beverages.

As well as a ban on activities that cause noise during the celebration of Christmas on December 25, 2022.

The goal is of course to create an atmosphere of peace, security and comfort, especially for Christians in Jayapura City, Papua.
