In connection with the statement of activist Veronica Koman, a pro separatist group of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), who requested the withdrawal of security forces from Nduga, the police said that they would not withdraw their troops.
The National Police claimed that they would not withdraw their personnel serving in Papua Indonesia despite pressure from a number of parties, as well as requests from Papuan leaders. This was revealed by the Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brig. Gen. Argo Yuwono.
"Of course it is not possible in an area that the police will be guarded there," said Argo at Rupatama Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Tuesday (02/11/2020).
According to him, the police are part of the government in all provinces in Indonesia, starting from the Police Headquarters level to the police post. Argo said, the task of the police is to provide services and a sense of security to the community. Therefore, he considered that it was impossible for the police to be withdrawn from the area.
"The police are part of the government that exists in all provinces, ranging from the National Police Headquarters to the police post, there are all of them," he said
The task of the security forces, including the police, is to provide services to the community, especially to provide a sense of security and to provide quality of life for the people, especially in Papua Indonesia to be better.
