West Papua Visa Free Foreign Citizens

The West Papua Provincial Government and all regencies / cities are requested to take advantage of President Joko Widodo's policy regarding visa-free visits for foreign nationals (foreigners). Head of the West Papua Province Law and Human Rights Office Anthonius Mayorbaba said the policy was issued to encourage development and growth in the tourism and investment sectors.

He explained that West Papua had both potentials, namely the tourism sector which was amazing. "Investment opportunities in West Papua are also quite large. So this policy must be utilized as much as possible to optimize the two sectors," Ayorbaba said.

He explained the policy was given to foreigners from 169 countries. Departing from this policy, as many as 72 countries have issued the same policy for Indonesia.

"There are 169 countries given the convenience of the Indonesian government. This is no joke, the state dares to lose Rp 1.3 trillion per year due to the loss of PNBP (non-tax state revenue). In return, the tourism and investment sectors are expected to increase," he said.

He said the Ministry of Law and Human Rights was ready to help the West Papua Provincial Government to optimize tourism potential and increase investment. The community was also invited to participate in supporting the policies and vision of the governor's mission by maintaining the security situation in their respective regions.

"We are ready to work in synergy with the provincial and district governments. Let's work according to the role and authority of each to encourage progress and prosperity of the community," he said.
