Expansion of Papua Efforts to Accelerate Development in Papua




Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian said the division of Papua was one of the Government's efforts to accelerate development in Papua. Because there are still many areas there that are classified as underdeveloped areas. With a large area, of course, the issue of control span is one of the problems that can be pursued.

The Minister of Home Affairs explained that in a working meeting with Committee I DPD RI. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of Committee I DPd RI who is also senator from Aceh Fachrul Razi.

“The expansion scenario is for the acceleration of development in Papua. For example, Manokwari and Sorong developed very rapidly with the division into West Papua Province, "said the Minister of Home Affairs.

Tito also added that, in the expansion plan in Papua, the Government has involved various parties including the indigenous Papuan people. For now, the proposals to be expanded are the Province of South Papua, the Province of the Central Mountains, and the Expansion of the Province of Central Papua. The expansion mechanism is also regulated through the approval of the MRP and DPRP.

Chairman of Committee I Fachrul Razi on that occasion reminded that the expansion of Papua Province should be based on the aspirations and input of the Papuan people. This aims to expand the Papua Province in accordance with the hopes and desires of the community to catch up and accelerate development.

The division of Papua Province is one of the strategic points for the revision of the amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province which will end soon in 2021.

The Working Meeting was attended by members of Committee I, including Filep Wamafma (West Papua), Otopipanus P Tebay (Papua), Agustin Teras Narang (Central Kalimantan), Leonardy Harmainy Dt. Bandaro Basa (West Sumatra), Lily Salurapa (South Sulawesi), Ahmad Sukisman Azmy (NTB), Husein Alting Sjah (North Maluku), Sabam Sirait (DKI Jakarta).

Abaraham Liyanto (NTT), Maria Goreti (West Kalimantan), Badikenita Sitepu (North Sumatra), Dewa Putu Ardika (Sultra), Hudarni Rani (Babel), Abdul Rachman Thaha (Central Sulawesi), Muhammad Idris (East Kalimantan), Richard Hamonangan Pasaribu (Kepri) , Intsiawati Ayus (Riau), Jialyka Maharani (South Sumatra), Ahmad Bastian (Lampung), and Arya Wedakarna (Bali).

Fachrul Razi said Committee I DPD RI and the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia agreed that the limited revision of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province should give priority to affirmation, protection and empowerment of indigenous Papuans.

Fachrul Razi emphasized that Committee I DPD RI and the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia agreed that the form and pattern of supervision, guidance and management of special autonomy needed to be emphasized in the limited revision of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province.
