Ahead of XX PON in Papua, Here's the Preparation for West Sumatra Karate Athletes

The Karate contingent team of West Sumatra Province encourages karate athletes who will compete in the XX PON in Papua Province. One way this is done is by doing try out and training together with the karate team from Riau Province.

This was expressed by the General Secretary of Forki West Sumatra, Kompol Alvira on the sidelines of the West Sumatra karate team's try out with the Riau karate team at H. Agus Salim Sports Hall, Padang, Sunday (7/3).

According to him, the West Sumatra karate team will match eight karate athletes consisting of seven committee athletes and one word women's team, to compete in the XX PON in Papua later.

"We have been preparing since last 2019. Currently we are doing maturity to face PON in Papua. By trying out with the karate team from Riau, it is hoped that we can see the shortcomings of the West Sumatra Karate team, "he said.

For the target, Elvira admitted that he could not provide an answer. Because the West Sumatra karate team is exploring the readiness of karate teams from other provinces, which will also compete in PON Papua.

"For the target, we will see the preparations of other teams competing in the PON. We will set a target in June 2021. Later we will describe the real target that can be achieved, ”he explained.

Previously, the West Sumatra karate team had done a try out in 2019 with the Riau Karate team, in Pekanbaru. "We previously had a try out with the Riau karate team in Pekanbaru. Currently, the Pekanbaru karate team is visiting the city of Padang to do a try out together, "he concluded.

PON Papua is planned to be held in October 2019. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the national sports party must be postponed until October 2021.

Not only this time the implementation of PON has been postponed. Previously, the 6th PON in 1965 in Jakarta had to be canceled due to the impossible national security situation after the G30S / PKI incident on October 1, 1965 ago.

PON XX Papua will compete against 37 of the 47 branches that have been determined, and will do 679 match numbers. Then, 10 sports that will not be competed in the XX Papua PON are bicycle racing, table tennis, bridge, gateball, water skiing, bowling, dancing, petanque, woodball and golf.
