Kornelis Way Supports the Sustainability of Special Autonomy in the Land of Papua

Maybrat community leader who is also a member of the Otsus version of the Provincial Expansion Committee, Kornelis Way supports the sustainability of special autonomy (Otsus) and government programs.

"We, the people of West Papua, strongly support the sustainability of Otsus, because Otsus has provided enormous benefits for four priority programs, namely education, health, infrastructure, and community economic empowerment," he said in Manokwari, Friday (1/1).

Kornelis Way also added that the central government had channeled special autonomy funds to Papua and West Papua in accordance with procedures and had succeeded in developing Papuan lands.

"Special Autonomy has brought many benefits to the community, ranging from access to food, economic access, education, health services, housing, provision of clean water, communication, and various other infrastructures," he said.

He supports the statement of the leadership of the DPRD throughout West Papua regarding the sustainability of Otsus in Papua and West Papua.

"DPRD leaders from all regions of West Papua from 12 districts and 1 city support the sustainability of Papua's Special Autonomy. This statement of support from DPRD leaders throughout West Papua was officially submitted to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD on December 15, 2020," he said. .

Kornelis Way hopes that the indigenous Papuan people in Sorong City will support the sustainability of Otsus and support government programs for the creation of security stability and the realization of sustainable development.

As one of the figures who joined the Otsus version of the committee for the expansion of the province of West Papua. The proposed expansion of the province of West Papua, according to the Otsus version, is based on Article 76 of Law 21/2001 on Special Autonomy for the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.

"The presence of the Province of West Papua as an example or a new model of governance in the Land of Papua is because the government administration system will be based on the implementation of the Special Autonomy Law or based on the specificity of Papua and West Papua," he added.

West Papua Province which was born with reference to the Special Autonomy Law will strengthen the love of indigenous Papuans for the Unitary Republic of Indonesia in addition to accelerating the pace of development, bringing public services closer.

"The rejection of the sustainability of Otsus by certain groups in Papua and West Papua, because it is motivated by several factors including the lack of information about the progress of the implementation of the Special Autonomy fund and lack of knowledge about the priority targets of the Special Autonomy fund and provoked by the influence of the Papua-Political Separatist Group," he concluded. Kornelis Way.
