Papuan leaders ask for expansion and investigate the misuse of special autonomy funds




Papuan community leader, Pastor Albert Yoku, asked for law enforcement for local government officials who used the Special Autonomy fund. This was conveyed by Albert when meeting the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD with the Forum for Regional Heads of the Land of Tabi and Sairei (FORKADA) Papua Province, at the Ballroom Palace, Hotel Sari Fasific Jakarta ,.

"We hope that there must be law enforcement in Papua, especially government officials in the regions and all those who use the Special Autonomy funds," said Albert Yoku, who is also part of the Papua province expansion team.

According to Albert Otsus is a great blessing from the central government for indigenous Papuans. "If used properly it will be a blessing, especially in education, health and economy," added Albert.

On the same occasion, a woman figure who is also the Chairperson of the Papuan Evangelical Christian Church (PW GKI) Women's Guild Dorince Mehue asked the central government to evaluate the use and management of the special autonomy fund from 2002 until now.

"Otsus is a blessing from God through the central government but has been abused by a number of people," said Dorince Mehue.

According to Dorince Mehue, the central government needs to conduct a joint evaluation with the Papuan and West Papua People's Assembly, including the gaps between the remaining customary territories.

"Papua Province must be expanded, in order to achieve justice so that not only a number of indigenous territories and territories will receive sufficient special autonomy funds. We are ready to support central government policies," added Dorince Mehue.

In response to this, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD will follow up on the proposal and have gathered the Attorney General's Office, the KPK and the Police so that law enforcement can be followed up immediately.

"I always listen to law enforcement when having dialogue with the community and Papuan leaders. We have just summoned the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission, the National Police to bring up this aspiration, we will follow up on law enforcement," Mahfud said.

The proposals received, Mahfud emphasized, would follow up in two steps: first the legislative process will later be submitted to the team through the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"Secondly, I have asked the Deputy One of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to immediately map out the area for the division to be precise, including reviewing the proposals from the heads of regions and community leaders," Mahfud concluded.

General TNI Tri Soewandono who is also a former Papua Regional Military Command, Deputy for Regional Police, Special Staff for the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Members of the Papua People's Council (MRP), the Regional Head and the Papua Provincial DPRD and the team expansion of Papua Province.
